To counter the voice of jihadist threats in the Far North Region, the government, which is implementing an emergency security plan in this part of the territory, is calling on the local population to intensify collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces.
Faced with a serious jihadist threat in the border area with Chad and Nigeria in the Far North Region, the Cameroonian authorities, who are struggling to come to terms with the situation following the recent attack in Wulgo on the night of March 24-25, which cost the lives of twelve soldiers, the Minister Delegate to the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo, the Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Yves Landry Galax Etoga, and the General Delegate for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé, in collaboration with the administrative authorities of Maroua, are implementing more reliable security strategies to strengthen security along its border in order to better guarantee the movement of people and goods. In Mora, for example, the authorities have launched a process of remobilizing the local population, with increased security measures and targeted humanitarian support. Thus, during his recent visit to this part of the territory, while comforting the war wounded, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo took this opportunity to reaffirm to the population the firm determination of the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya, to put out of harm's way all the armed jihadist gangs whose aim is to sow chaos in the country and weaken our economy.
Thanks to the tireless support of our valiant Defense and Security Forces, the government continues to step up efforts to counter terrorist attacks primarily attributed to Boko Haram, as well as other armed groups. To achieve the desired results, citizens' confidence must be restored by increasing the creation of mixed posts and intensifying patrols. Furthermore, the State, which is calling on the population to collaborate with the FDS, must equip vigilance committees with communication equipment. Anything that would help strengthen the resilience of local communities in the face of violence. However, for a return to normalcy in this economically devastated region, local authorities and humanitarian organizations are called upon to play an active role in this mobilization, by providing psychosocial support and ensuring the safety of internally displaced persons.
